By all rights, this should be something I am deeply passionate about. I’ve been in tech/engineering my entire adult life and was obsessed with NASA as a kid. I even live on the east coast of Florida and can sometimes see the launches/landings over the ocean. But I just… don’t care at all. I’m not suffering from depression or any other malaise, and generally things are fine. But I haven’t clicked on a single link or looked at a single image. I know this has not been the case for many, many people, so I’m wondering what might be different about this launch (or really the whole program in general), and curious if anyone else has found themselves feeling the same.

I try to give the most grace possible. I’ve only ever blocked two users here. That said, I’d totally understand why someone might block me.

We all know the pictures of the astronauts on the ISS floating around. We also suspect that a lack of gravity is bad for the body as the muscles go weak and such.

Edit: Swim goggles should work too if you don’t have to worry about glasses.

Cultural relativism aside, I’m sure we can agree on “terrible” if we talk it out. I’m not asking for a “well X country is worse than Y country, so, Y country isn’t THAT bad”. I’d say for this discussion we can go as far back as 1800 for “past” as I’m currently convinced there isn’t a country with a perfect track record going back even that short a time.

Well hello again everybody! This has been a wonderful past couple of days. I want to give a huge thank you to everybody who participated in my Under New Management post from Thursday. The scenario is: you’ve managed to receive ₩500,000,000 (~$337,265) at a Korean lottery (the catch is, only given in cash) which is delivered to you in two duffel bags. However will there be issues when returning back to the USA with that amount of money since it’s bundles of cash via foreign currency when the cap is $10,000 for undeclared amounts?

So I grew up very sheltered and isolated from society and as a result missed out on a lot of pop culture and other common things. I love to read, and I really enjoy fantasy and DnD and those types of things and I’m trying to find and catch up on the great fantasy books/series that every fantasy lover/nerd should know. I’m not as interested in sci-fi, but I’m willing to read the “great” ones too. What would you recommend?

For example, have you ever come across a piece of stock music that actually slapped the face off ya? Or a stock image that could easily make it onto your wall in a mahogany frame if it wasn’t for the Shutterstock watermark?

I’m basically trying to recreate this, minus the absolutely insane pricetag. Desk mounted versions exist for literally one-twentieth the cost, but for some reason that three foot pole and wheels causes the price to explode.

I am trying to convince my group to switch from WhatsApp to Signal and we plan to vote on it soon. So, I plan to use the replies in this thread to compile a list of reasons to use as talking points. Preferably, I need something that can be understood on a personal level as some of my friends are deeply cynical and have no concern about escaping techno-feudalism and surveillance.

I have finally decided to move to a proper password manager. But it’s kinda scary, you know, to export all you passwords in one place and if you mess up a bit you might lose all of your passwords especially when they said once I lose my master password there is no way to recover it.

I mean… language and culture… not the actually underlying ability to love, but the “vibe” of the family dynamics…
